Bearfoot Hideaway is a great place to relax and get away from the everyday. This cottage is set on a hillside about 4 miles (8 minutes) from Main Street Highlands, NC. The main level offers a great room with a wood burning fireplace, 40″ TV with DVD, comfortable seating, games, dining area that seats 8-10, and an open kitchen (coffee lovers can choose between a Keurig coffee maker or a Mr. Coffee type drip machine). The main entrance to the deck is between the kitchen and the laundry room and offers a dining and seating area and a hot tub*. The bedroom wing offers a hallway full bath, a guest bedroom with a Double(Full) bed, and the Mst. BR with a King bed, and larger bath.
The lower level offers a large den with 46″ TV, DVD, and a comfortable seating area. There’s a guest BR with a Queen bed, and another guest BR with two twins, and a bonus room with a Futon. There is one full bath for the lower level. Even though there are sleeping areas for more than the occupancy limit, we ask that you abide by the 8 person limit due to septic tank restrictions.
The deck has a gas grill and a charcoal grill
Bearfoot Hideaway has a carport for ‘normal height’ cars/trucks with additional parking in the adjacent grassy area. This cottage is in a small subdivision with about 10 homes using the same road in front of the cottage. The road below the cottage services about 4-5 homes. Neither road is a though-way, limiting traffic near the cottage.
A pet may be allowed with $150.00 non refundable pet fee and pet policy attached to lease.
If you wish to use the hot tub, there is a hot tub fee of $100.00 for servicing before your use.
There is a nice little hike within a 1/4 of Bearfoot Hideaway. The one mile hike takes you through the woods to Cliffside Park (accessible by car from Hwy.64). It’s a great place for a picnic or a swim in the marked off swimming area. Going the other direction, if you want to walk on the paved road, within a half mile to Pinky Falls, a very small area to get your feet wet and be surrounded by nature.
Highlands, NC is where you’ll find shopping in eclectic shops offering everything from the latest in men’s and women’s fashions, furs, mountain hiking apparel, toys, books, jewelry, furniture, antiques, and more. The dining experience varies as well from ice cream and hamburgers to 4 star dining, a wine shop, plus our grocery stores have some of the best wine selections anywhere. There are hiking trails IN town as well as many on the outskirts of town, and did you know we’re pretty famous for our waterfalls. Our Recreation Park is open year round offering a skate park, a heated pool (water aerobics classes almost every day), and exercise rooms. In the winter months, the ice rink is open next to Kelsey-Hutchinson Park, and speaking of the park- in the summer, there’s music, and a farmer’s market on Saturdays. There’s also live music on the weekends in other places in town. There’s always something to do in Highlands, but sometimes people come here to just sit at home and relax. Highlands is surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest, and being part of a temperate rain forest, it tends to rain here quite a bit, resulting in lush flora and fauna. There are species of plants that grow here that will only grow in certain parts of the world.

Minimum stay: 2 nights. Holidays are a one week minimum (unless you’re booking within 14 days of the holiday)
