Project Description

Stag’s Pass is a mid-century luxury cabin located in the beautiful mountains of Highlands, NC. High up in the treetops and full of ‘Old Highlands Charm,’ this property has WELCOME HOME in its bones.

As soon as you enter this home, you are in the galley-style kitchen that is complete with everything you need to dish up your favorite meals while on vacation. There’s a seating/conversation nook as well as a laundry area at the end of the kitchen, a good place for a morning cup of coffee or reading a book in the morning early light. Then you head into the family room which has a dining table that can comfortably seat six, a living area with ample seating, a gas log fireplace, and Cable TV. You are instantly drawn to the screened porch, which extends the living area on days you aren’t using the air conditioning.
The split floorplan has the primary ensuite bedroom (tub/shower) to the left and offers a King bed and cable TV. The other two bedrooms are on the other side of the living area. The Queen bedroom has cable TV and the other bedroom has two twins. Both of the guest bedrooms share a small bath (shower).

The screened porch has a tin roof, and when it rains, the most delightful afternoon naps should be taken- that’s almost a requirement. The seating is comfortable thickly-cushioned wicker and looking out into the foliage of the Nantahala Forest, you may find tp be some of the most memorable moments of all. There are steps from the screened porch to the lower level where you’ll find a gas grill, another screened porch for dining, and a fire pit.

This home is not pet-friendly, and there are steps to enter. This part of the Mirror Lake area is accessed by a dirt and gravel road, but most of the other roads in and around town are paved. If you like to walk, this is in a perfect location, but by car, Main Street Highlands is just a couple of miles away and where you will find restaurants and shopping that rival large cities. There’s a covered and heated swimming pool, a recreation center offering pickle ball, tennis, and exercise equipment, Highlands Historical museum, a botanical garden, library, churches and a Highlands Greenway Trail where you can take short or long hikes all within the town area. Highlands is also known as a place to see many mountain vistas, waterfalls, and day hikes you won’t want to miss. Within seven miles, in Scaly Mountain, the Highlands Outdoor Post and Highlands Aerial Park offer zip lining, tubing, a giant forest swing, swinging bridge and the Scaly Screamer, a roller coaster through the trees.
If you want to have fun, but a little less active, check out The Bascom Center for Visual Arts or the Performing Arts Center bringing live entertainment and live-streamed Metropolitan Opera and the Highlands Chamber Music Festival.

After a fun day, return to Stag’s Pass to live in the comfort of day’s gone by, but with all the finer amenities of today. As a matter of a fact, you will probably decide to have some ‘at-home’ days while you’re here, at Stag’s Pass, a day at home is worth the trip.

Beautifully appointed cabin high in the woods. Tranquil and quiet, a time to reflect on the beauty of the mountains. Great location and close to town if you choose to leave your perch.

Magical Mountain Weekend

We had the most amazing time at Stag’s Pass! We arrived right before winter storm Izzy brought around a foot or more of snow tho Highlands! It was a magical winter wonderland! Our family had the most amazing time playing in the snow and sledding, and the cabin was the perfect cozy retreat! We loved sitting by the gas fireplace, and we cooked in every night and enjoyed our dinner time together. All of the beds were so luxurious, and the decor throughout was beautiful-the perfect mix of sophisticated and comfortable.

Great Stay at Stag's Pass

Our family of 4 had a great stay at Stag’s Pass. There was ample oom and one room in particular had 2 twin beds that was perfectly kid-sized. The beds were very comfortable after a long day of being outside and the house was a great cozy place to rest as well. We found the kitchen to be adequately stocked with the kitchen items that we needed which was really helpful. The house is on a beautiful mountainside which makes for great views, however this also makes it not walkable to downtown which is honestly a quick 5-minute drive.

Each year we visit Highlands to celebrate my father’s birthday and have always loved staying at Stag’s Pass. The accommodation are absolutely wonderful. Luxury bedding and comfortable mattresses. Close to town. Fire pit outside, which we used a lot.

I am very particular about residences that I book and I was extremely pleased with Stag’s Pass. A get away, long weekend and it was perfect for what I needed to detach, feel comfortable, and enjoy the house and the surroundings. Would love to come back and stay a little longer so I could take in more of Highlands. Once I got to the house though, the idea of leaving just wasn’t that important anymore!
