Imagine a place where you can sit in the comfort of your own home, and look out onto mountains that are millions and millions of years old. This is Whiteside View. Located in an area of Highlands long known for ‘old Highlands charm,’ Big Bear Pen Mountain is home to less than probably a hundred homes, and each one seems to be neatly tucked into the lush rhododendron, Mountain Laurels, and a mixture of hardwoods and evergreens.
Whiteside View is all on one easy level and has three bedrooms, laid out in a split-floorplan to afford privacy for couples. Mst. BR has a King bed with a private bathroom, TV, and a great view. Guest BR with Queen and the 3rd BR with two twins have private access to the shared bathroom. Whiteside View was recently renovated and is considered to be a ‘smart house’. The large flat screen above the fireplace and many of the outlets are controlled by an easy wall panel. The lovely stone fireplace is wood burning. WiFi and Cable TV are included. The covered porch has a nice seating area, dining area, charcoal grill, and a fantastic mountain view. The kitchen has everything you need and is open to the dining area and living area, all with a commanding view. The convenient washer/dryer area is an extension of the kitchen.
The house is light and bright and decorated 2020 style, with ease and comfort in mind yet with plenty of panache. Big Bear Pen Road is a well-traveled dirt and gravel road that services only the homes on Big Bear Pen. The area of Big Bear Pen has always been a Highlands icon, but in recent years has become even more of a walker’s paradise. There are several mountain trails (well marked) where you can take little excursions and think you’re in the middle of nowhere! This home has a 4-night minimum. The rental app you are using may allow you to make two or three-night rentals during these times, but that doesn’t mean the reservation will be honored.
