Highlands and the surrounding areas are known for their beauty and tranquility. A big part of the reason is that we’re in the Nantahala Forest surrounded by countless acres of unspoiled beauty.
We’re also known as The Land of Waterfalls. Just some of our local waterfalls are:
Dry Falls: a 70- 80 foot waterfall that you can walk under without getting wet! (well, almost) Probably our most popular waterfall in Highlands.
Glen Falls: This waterfall has 3 cascades of 60-65 feet, each visible by a steep mountain trail- cool anytime of the year.
Lower Cullasaja Falls: This waterfall drops 250 feet and is visible by our scenic Highway 64- not good for white knuckle drivers.
Whitewater Falls has a 411 foot drop and is known as the King of all Southeastern Waterfalls its located about 45 minutes from Highlands- but worth the trip.
