Highlands and the surrounding areas are known for their beauty and tranquility. A big part of the reason is because we’re in the Nantahala Forest- surrounded by countless acres of unspoiled beauty.
We’re also known as The Land of Waterfalls. Just some of our local waterfalls are:
Dry Falls: a 70- 80 foot waterfall that you can walk under without getting wet! (well, almost) Probably our most popular waterfall in Highlands.
Glen Falls: This waterfall has 3 cascades of 60-65 feet, each visible by a steep mountain trail- cool anytime of the year.
Lower Cullasaja Falls: This waterfall drops 250 feet and is visible by our scenic Highway 64- not good for white knuckle drivers.
Whitewater Falls has a 411 foot drop and is known as the King of all Southeastern Waterfalls its located about 45 minutes from Highlands- but worth the trip.
