On January 9th, 2024, there was a mudslide on US Hwy 64 (we simply call it ‘The Gorge’). Now, usually, the gorge is in the news because an 18-wheeler gets stuck in the curves. 18-wheelers are prohibited from traveling that stretch of road, but hearsay goes that” the drivers don’t know any better and they’re just following orders from dispatch.” I wonder if the truck driving companies saw the video of the gorge road, (below) if they would send their drivers on that road? I’m not even sure I’d feel good about traveling this road anymore.
The NC DOT plans to have the road completed in February. Hey- isn’t that tomorrow? I hope they take their time.
What about you? I’d love to hear your comments. Have you ever traveled the gorge road?
Most GPS systems will take motorists on this road. If you’re headed to Highlands, you may want to check the whole route if you have any hesitancy.
