Highlands is still a seasonal town, but there are plenty of things to do if you can take some time away. Whether you come for a weekend or longer, we’ve got you covered.

“Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius.” ~ Pietro Aretino

What do you love about winter?

In Highlands, it’s the slowed-down pace that many love—time to read (or write) a book, enjoy nature walks, maybe a snow walk, attend a show, enjoy less crowded restaurants, and so much more.

Even though many of our vacation rental homes are closed for the winter, we have many available to rent. Who knows? Maybe you will get snowed in. It doesn’t happen too often, but one could hope, right?

Here’s a sampling of Highlands NC lodging – these are available to rent year-round with a two-night minimum

Hidden Hollow- Two bedrooms/2.5 baths- walk to town and the park.

Nestle Inn- Three bedrooms/4 baths- close to town with a wood-burning fireplace and outdoor firepit

Hoot Owl Hollow– Three bedrooms/ 2.5 baths  wood burning fireplace and close to town

Hideaway Cabin- Three bedrooms/2 baths- a TRUE hideaway log cab with a wood-burning fireplace

Now that you’ve got a great place to stay – check out some things to do while you’re here.

Winter is a great time to be in Highlands! While you’re here, you may decide to check out some places to book for a longer stay in the spring, summer or fall. We can help you with that. You may also decide to start house shopping and we can help with that as well.

Here’s a short poem inspired by the Pietro Aretino quote:

January sits on the brink,
right on the edge, she is the link
we’ve all been waiting for, the chance,
not to sit this one out, but DANCE.
Barely started, this year’s still new,
pages are turning, how about you?
Winter’s here, let your mind wander
to days of which you’re more fonder.
