Today is the last day of February 2024.

Well, not really, because tomorrow is Sadie Hawkins Day!

February 29th only happens every four years. What will you do with your ‘EXTRA’ day?

How about taking time to plan a trip to Highlands, NC

Consider a trip in March, April or May- before the real rush.

What’s new?

For one thing, Chambers Realty & Vacation Rentals has a NEW rental in our rental program.

Satulah Mountain Retreat is a 4 Bedroom/three-bath, circa 1942 Highlands home that oozes with what we like to call “Old Highlands Charm.” Its setting is 4 acres of old-growth rhododendrons and century-old hardwoods, and there are places for young and old to have room to explore. Look for it in our vacation rental listings, you may also want to follow its Facebook Page and/or  Instagram page

We think you’re going to LOVE Satulah Mountain Retreat!

Here are some other wonderful places – these are available during March as well as other times.

Click the links to read more about them and to see their availability calendar.

(There may be more homes available in March and there will also be more homes opening up in April and May.)

Nestle Inn  3 BR/3 bath

Camp Highlands 4 BR/3 bath

Hidden Hollow 2 BR/ 2.5 bath

Hideaway Cabin 3 BR/2 bath

Hoot Owl Hollow 3 BR/ 2.5 bath

Camp Bear Pen 3 BR/2 bath (with 3rd bath available on lower level)

Now that you’ve found a place to stay, what’s there to do? (Not that you need anything to do, some people come to Highlands just to relax, hang out with family and friends, hike and eat. You’re going to want to eat in some of the fabulous Highlands restaurants.)

Every Wednesday evening is Bluegrass night at The Ugly Dog Pub. Nitrograss is amazing- you don’t have to, but people have been known to clog or buckdance.

Skating at the park will continue through March, Thursdays- Sunday.

Bear Shadow Festival- this is a ticketed event and tends to sell out early, so I’m posting this now. This year’s dates are May 11-12.

Highlands Motoring Festival. The 2024 dates are June 6-9, but I want to emphasize June 8th- that’s the day ALL the cars are on display in the park.  You would not BELIEVE the cars you will see! Again, I’m posting this early because that weekend tends to book up fast.

You will want to be here for at least two nights for any of these things,  but why not stay a little longer to get in some hikes, tubing, ziplining, and waterfalls?

Best hiking trails ever! Check out this list from All Trails.

Highlands Outpost delivers- they’ve got tubing (year-round) the Scaly Mountain Screamer and a great BBQ restaurant.

Highlands Aerial Park has more to offer than ‘just’ ziplining (as if that wasn’t enough, right?) They’re only a hop, skip and jump from the Highlands Outpost and about 15 – 20 minutes to Main Street Highlands.

Phew! Did I say two nights? You may want to stay for three or four! Highlands is Calling!
