Established in 1875 as a summer resort by Kelsey & Hutchinson, the area was known for its tranquil beauty, and the fresh, mountain air was purportedly healing. Whether there is medical evidence to support that may not be known, but one thing is for sure: when you’re in Highlands, your stress level drops, and you want to BE here, you want to STAY here, and one day, you may want to LIVE here.

Rent a home for a month or more.
All of our vacation rentals have a nightly rate, and any stay of more than seven nights is discounted.
The longer you stay, the less you will pay.
Rentals of thirty nights or more are discounted 20% off the nightly rate.
But what if I can’t stay a whole month? You know… work, my kids have activities, and I have civic, church, and non-profit things I need to attend.
Not to worry. What do you think second homeowners do? Sure, some come and never leave for three to six months, but there are plenty of second homeowners, part-time residents, and seasonal residents who are just like you. They have a life outside of Highlands. Not a problem.

Go ahead and rent for a month. Or two or three months. Come any time of year you would like to be here, and come and go when you want or need to. It all depends on which property you choose and what time of year it is, but there’s also a good chance you’ll score a deeper discount than 20%. (Have you seen the May Days special? There’s still time to get in on that- even for a monthly rental. For instance, you could rent May 15th- June 15th and get 25% off your stay.)

A great time to experience Highlands is mid-May to mid-June/July. Spring comes later here, and as you head into summer, the town really comes to life. Music every weekend, and the flowers are spectacular. Another great time to rent is mid-August to mid-September/October. You will experience our cool summer, cooler autumn with a patchwork quilt of fall colors,  and maybe even a touch of winter.
